GREEN QUITO
Guayasamin loved his country and especially his city. Therefore, he painted it in all colors: black, red, white and green. The first is Green Quito which he painted in 1948. The group of mountains surrounding or wrapping around the city are very important, especially Pichincha which for Guayasamin was like a live animal that changed colors in winter or simmer at dawn and at noon or at dusk. Its inhabitants live at the rhythm of the colors of this volcano and its steep streets climbing up the hills characterize the city declared the first city together with Krakow as Humanity’s Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
